With Thanksgiving Dinner approaching (or well on its way, depending on your time zone), many shoppers are already planning tomorrow’s shopping extravaganza, known in the US as Black Friday. The name derives from the fact that traditionally, retailers are “in the red” until tomorrow’s shopping frenzy, after which day they can finally show a profit for the year.
Tomorrow is all about finding the best deals and purchasing that $249 item you’ve been wanting for only $49, before supplies run out. This Black Friday, shoppers are armed with an additional resource for their deal-hunting. Gannett’s ContentOne division, in collaboration with USA Today, ShopLocal and Lingospot, has created a mini-site with all the articles, information, lists, maps, coupons and shopping advice that consumers need before they hit the streets tomorrow. My favorite section of the site is the Find it Fast page, where shoppers can find sale listings and maps for each of their favorite retailers.
Ready, Set, SHOP! is being sponsored by JCPenney and in addition to USA Today and 120+ Gannett newspaper and TV sites, several Hearst Newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle have their own custom versions of the site.
Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and happy shopping tomorrow!
